Waves of Style
Waves of Style is an exhibition by HistoryMiami Museum that explores the evolution of swimwear and how shifting societal norms and cultural influences are reflected in Miami’s beach culture. The exhibition features over 50 garments, spanning from the 18th century to the present, highlighting more than a century of fashion innovation.
The exhibition design drew inspiration from a beach boardwalk, incorporating elements such as wooden fencing, classic beach signage and elaborate wall graphics to create an immersive experience. As lead designer, I developed the visual identity and collaborated with the Exhibition Director on the overall creative direction.
I designed all graphic components of the exhibition, including labels, signage, and large-scale wall graphics. To enhance the storytelling, I designed custom illustrated pattern and texture details inspired by the swimsuits on display for each label, allowing visitors to engage more closely with the materials and craftsmanship. In the interactive activity area, I designed graphics and activity sheets that invited visitors to create their own swimwear designs inspired by the exhibition. The wall graphics were inspired by photos from HistoryMiami’s archives and used color palettes reflective of each time period to create a cohesive visual narrative throughout the space.
