John James Audubon’s Birds of America
This archival display was developed to highlight HistoryMiami Museum’s extensive Audubon print collection while raising awareness around print conservation. Installed within the archive library, the display was designed as a rotating system, allowing visitors to safely view a range of works over time.
As design lead, I directed the creative concept and oversaw the project from initial design through final installation, collaborating with vendors and the preparation team to ensure quality production and execution. The goal was to create an engaging yet minimal visual environment that complemented the prints without taking away from them, while also drawing attention to the display as a whole within the museum.
Inspired by the natural light refracting through the nearby Fresnel glass, which cast a soft blue color onto the wall, I developed a visual concept that extended this effect. I color matched vinyl silhouettes of birds from the collection to echo the sky like hues, creating the impression of fragments of sky coming from above the display. To enhance the sense of subtle immersion, I designed delicate feather elements that appear to fall  from the birds in flight. This was achieved by using frosted materials to maintain visibility of the prints while adding texture.
