I am Crystal Alyssa,
I respond to the current commodity of media by visually reshaping my understandings of networks, the effects of social media on human behavior, and media theory.
Using the visual analogy of the grid, I compose minimal interactive installations of light projections and various reflective materials, relying on elements that can arguably be infinite, as well as uncontrollable and abstract to discuss a concrete notion. I investigate the function of networks in our lives, referencing the grid as an unchanged design element in our world; resting along every building, idea and communication platform.
I am interested in the ways we depend on social networks, or rather social grids, to invisibly create a sense of order within cyber-space and physical reality.
